Tradeview Malawi Donates K15 Million Worth- Working Materials for Disaster Response

Tradeview Malawi on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, donated working materials to support Disaster Risk Management Committees (DRMCs) in the execution of their duties during emergency response operations.

The donation, which was officially handed over in Lilongwe, comprised 300 raincoats and 50 reflective vests valued at K15 million. The items are intended to enhance the safety and effectiveness of disaster response teams, particularly during the rainy season when most disaster incidents occur.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Tradeview Malawi Head of Marketing, Enea Mwalweni, said Disaster Risk Management Committees often operate under harsh weather conditions, especially during floods and storms, yet lack adequate protective gear. He noted that the donation was aimed at ensuring that committee members remain protected while carrying out critical life-saving interventions in affected communities.

“Disaster risk management committees respond to emergencies when it is raining, and in many cases they are exposed to harsh conditions without proper protective equipment. This donation is meant to support their work and ensure they can operate safely and efficiently,” said Mwalweni.

Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) Deputy Director of Response, Fyawupi Mwafongo, welcomed the donation, describing it as timely and highly beneficial. He said the department is currently responding to multiple disaster incidents across the country, and many committees at Traditional Authority level lack basic working materials.

“We are currently responding to disasters, and most of the disaster committees operating at Traditional Authority level do not have adequate working materials. This donation will go a long way in improving their response capacity. We sincerely appreciate Tradeview Malawi for this support and call upon other companies to emulate this gesture,” said Mwafongo.

Mwafongo further emphasized the importance of private sector involvement in disaster preparedness and response, noting that government efforts alone are often insufficient to meet the growing demands caused by climate-related disasters.

Headquartered in Blantyre, Tradeview Malawi is a general supplier dealing in a wide range of products, including stationery, water connection equipment, electrical and mechanical supplies, as well as personal protective equipment. The company’s contribution underscores its commitment to corporate social responsibility and community resilience, particularly in disaster-prone areas.

The donation is expected to strengthen the operational capacity of Disaster Risk Management Committees and improve coordination during emergency response efforts across the country.
